This is a very useful feature which enables FREEZING your credit report.

Have you had anyone open up a credit card using your details?
Any other actions taken without your authorization which ended up affecting your credit history?
Now you can request a CREDIT FREEZE on your account for free!
This is a relatively new feature and not many folks are using this. Mainly applicable for US system but it is very likely there are similar systems in place for other countries which use a common credit history system. Please share if you have any information regarding systems from any other country.
So, how do you get started?
Simply go to the main three credit monitoring agency websites, create an account and request your credit freeze (completely free).
Please remember, if any site requests you to sign up using a credit/debit card, its OK to go ahead and do that but MAKE SURE you cancel any long term subscriptions these websites might automatically sign you up to.
They might want you to sign up to one of their paid services automatically (which should be disallowed as it is a bit dishonest). However this is a minor inconvenience, simply sign up and then ensure you cancel any paid subscription within a day or so.
The free credit Freeze/Unfreeze ability it self makes this hassle worth it.
Whenever you want to open a new account, apply for a pre-approval for a home loan or for any other credit check, simply log on to the websites of these three credit reporting agencies and temporarily UNFREEZE your credit report.
Freeze/Unfreeze using the websites is MUCH more convenient than calling them (which takes longer)
Happy Freezing!
